New Jersey’s longest continuously occupied historic home has been standing since 1772, and it’s packed with stories. William Livingston, the state’s first governor, built it. Alexander Hamilton visited. Six generations of the same family lived here over two centuries. What makes Liberty Hall special is how layered it is — you can see how the house evolved from colonial times through the early 20th century, and the collections are remarkably intact because everything stayed in the family. The 23-acre grounds include formal gardens and a carriage house, and the museum does a genuinely good job of telling the full story.
