Sussex County is where Jersey gets legitimately rugged. High Point State Park has the highest elevation in the state, 1,803 feet, with a monument you can see for miles and trails worth the climb. Vernon is the mountain town: Mountain Creek brings skiers in winter and hikers and mountain bikers all summer. And Newton is a small county seat with a historic downtown that’s worth an afternoon. If you think New Jersey is flat, Sussex County is ready to prove you wrong.
